History of Longview Farm
New Longview is built upon the site of the historic Longview Farm and stands as a testament to early 20th-century ambition and elegance. Owned by lumber-baron and notable Kansas Citian R.A. Long, Longview Farm was completed in 1914 and the 1,780-acre estate was coined as a "The World’s Most Beautiful Farm," and was constructed in just 18 months by more than 2,000 workers. Designed by architect Henry F. Hoit and landscape architect George E. Kessler, the property featured over 40 Spanish Colonial-style buildings with stucco walls and red tile roofs, including diary and hog farms, orchards, greenhouses, and a renowned equestrian facility and show horse arena managed by Long's daughter, Loula Long Combs.
Today, the legacy of Longview Farm endures, with several original structures repurposed and nestled into the fabric of New Longview daily life, including the Longview Mansion, which now serves as an event venue, and the Longview Chapel Christian Church. The surrounding area has been thoughtfully developed into the New Longview neighborhood, blending historical preservation with modern living.
